TRADITION LIVES ON

A naval tradition dating back centuries has been observed by 180 crew members of HMAS Newcastle.
They were formally welcomed and granted permission to march through the city today, in a Freedom of Entry ceremony.
“It’s a very ancient ceremony, and generally done outside a city that has gates, where the gates were open to allow them to come through”
It’s two years since the navy frigate last visited its namesake.
