Coffs Harbour City Council is stepping up its push towards healthy estuaries, adopting a new management plan for Pipe Clay Lake at Corindi.
Among its main objectives is re-establishing Gumbaynggirr use of the lake, for a range of cultural purposes including traditional harvesting.
The small waterway is sacred to the local indigenous people, who are welcoming the opportunity to take on a greater custodial role.
Water quality testing will also be conducted, along with works to restore vegetation and facilities around the lake.
