Friends and family have posted tributes online for an 18-year-old man whose car struck a power pole at Bonnells Bay.
Emergency service workers say the death of Mikhail De Bastos yesterday, is a tragic reminder of our responsibilities behind the wheel.

Mikhail wasnt only a 18 year old bar tender.
He was a young man who is loved by every person he knew. He had finished his HSC in 2010 and was persuing his dreams to be one of the top players of his chosen sport of football (soccer).
Many look up to him, many love him, and now many have been touched by this loss.
What has happened to him was a accident, it could happen to any driver. Its very tragic it has happened to such a good young man. Just because he is a “p plater” doesnt mean he was doing anything wrong. He was just on his way home from work along the porly lit, wet bonnells bay road and has now lost his life!
Stop using mikhail as a statistic for road safety, your articles are hurting all his loved ones.
Always will be loved, will never be forgotten.

Mikhail is a man that no one spoke higher of, not just in his death! Isnt it time to look at these roads how many people lose their lives is disgusting! Please be respectful to he’s firends and family in all that is said and written. Their lives have been changed forever and never could a parent imagine having to deal with this.
Mikhail was a friend to my children, he was a friend to me. A finer young man would be hard to find; he was polite, respectful and caring; he had goals and dreams and unlike so many young people of his age he had set about achieving these goals. He should be admired for who he was and what he stood for; he was on his way home from work when this tragedy happened – it was an accident, it shouldn’t have happened.
Please do not make this fine young man the poster boy for other poorly behaved young drivers on our roads. We love you Mikhail – you will be missed by so many, we are lucky to have had the opportunity to share out time with you

Sunday the 29th of May 2011 was not his time. he wasnt ready to go!! mikhail still had so much to do. i always told him id be there to watch him play football (soccer) on the big screen when he was famous. i never thought id see you on the big screen so soon…and now its for all the wrong reasons
Fishery Point road is a death trap. it is a horrible road and something clearly needs to be done to it.
the weather conditions at the time and the fact that the road is definatly poorly lit make it easy for ANYONE at ANYTIME to have an accident along that stretch of road.
its it extreamly unfortunate that that person had to be one of the most kind hearted, amazingly polite people i have ever come across in my entire life…
i have known mikhail and his family my whole life.
Shocked, upset and devostated are not enough to describe my feelings. it doesnt seem real.
i dont think he realised how much he meant to everyone. he is truly a beautiful beautiful person who has had such an impact on everyones lives.
