WELDERS ASSURED WINE TANKS WERE EMPTY

An inquest has heard engineering company Perfab was assured on three separate occasions that tanks at Drayton’s winery were empty, before being welded.
Project Manager for Perfab, Glen Flanagan, was among three witnesses who gave evidence during the 4th day of the inquest into an explosion which killed winemaker, Trevor Drayton, and contractor, Edgar Orgo.
He said both Trevor and Greg Drayton assured him the tanks were empty before and during the work.
It’s thought a highly flammable liquid, known as SVR, ignited when Mr Orgo began welding.
