The Northern Rivers is Australia’s 14th largest tourism earner according to a new report.
The Economic Importance of Tourism in Australia’s Regions study found the value of tourism output to the region was $1.2 billion in the 2007/2008 financial year.
According to those figures the Northern Rivers is the 20th most tourism dependent region in Australia.
“we need to make sure tourism is good and strong for our economy, so lets make sure we retain that but not necessarily become more of an economic factor. I don’t think that that will be positive for the region”
Mr Arnold says diversification into other economic areas is the key to reducing dependency.
