MINING PROPOSAL POSES THREAT TO TIP

Wyong Council says it’s reluctant to approve a request from Centennial Mandalong Coal, which would see an extension of its long wall coal mining operations in Wyong.

The company has asked for exploration rights to investigate possible rich seams of coal, which run under the shire’s main waste disposal site at Buttonderry.

Council fears the move could pose a risk to the tip’s infrastructure, such as breaking a sediment pond.
