Recent wet weather and high tides have led to an explosion of mosquito numbers across the Hunter.
Hunter New England Health experts are warning us to take extra care not to get bitten, to avoid becoming infected with common mosquito-borne viruses, the Barmah Forest and Ross River fever.
While they’re not fatal, both diseases carry unpleasant symptoms, including painful joints and tiredness.
We’re being advised to use repellent and cover up.
