Police have charged a woman with attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife at their Edgeworth home.
Officers responded to reports of a domestic dispute at a house on Main Road at around 11.30 last night.
A 28-year-old man was found with a knife lodged in his chest, just millimetres from his heart.
He was taken John Hunter Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in a stable condition.
A 31-year-old woman has been refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
