A Coffs Harbour mechanic is lucky to be alive after a car he was working on exploded last night.
Police say the engine ignited when the man poured petrol into the carburetter.
Emergency services rushed to the O’Keefe Drive factory around seven o’clock, and the man was treated for smoke inhalation before taking himself to hospital to get his arm checked.
While the explosion caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage to the car, witnesses say it could have been a lot worse.
