Police negotiators and special operations officers are attempting to bring a peaceful end to a standoff with a man who they believe is armed, in the Hunter Valley town of Singleton.
The man who is thought to be armed with a shortened firearm, barricaded himself under a house in O’Halloran Street Singleton Heights, just before three this afternoon.
Residents were evacuated from the house and police warned parents, picking up their children from school to avoid the area.
Police wish to speak to the man over an earlier holdup at a nearby pharmacy.
