The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is undertaking a precarious rescue operation on the side of a mountain in the state’s north west.
Paramedics have reached and are assessing a 21-year-old climber with head injuries at the Warrumbungle National Park, near Coonabarabran.
It’s believed the climber was with three others when he fell 15 metres from a mountain while abseiling and may have been unconscious for some time.
Rescue teams are attempting to transport the patient to the top of the mountain before airlifting him to a suitable hospital.
