LATE PENALTY SINKS JETS

The Port Macquarie curse has continued for the Newcastle Jets, with the A-League side unable to score a single goal in the past five years of pre-season trials in the town.
This afternoon the side went down one-nil to Brisbane in front of a crowd of just over 2,000.
The breakthrough came in the 84th minute when the Jets Tarek Elrich was pulled up for a foul on Thomas Broich.
The Roar’s Ivan Franjic was on target with the penalty, slotting it past keeper Ben Kennedy.
The Jets problems started before kick off, with newly-appointed captain Michael Bridges ruled out because of illness.
