COLD CASE BREAKTHROUGH

Specialist cold case police have made a breakthrough in a sexual assault investigation that started in Port Macquarie 18 years ago.
They’ve arrested a 50-year-old man at Tweed Heads and charged him with two counts of aggravated sexual assault with a victim under 16 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The alleged attack occurred in April 1993 near Kooloonbung Creek.
During the incident a 15-year-old girl was allegedly threatened with a knife and sexually assaulted.
Police say a DNA link led them to the man.
