FERRIS CRITICAL

The racing industry is rallying behind a jockey who remains on life support in a Newcastle hospital.

Doctors say they’re struggling to reduce swelling on Patrick Ferris’s brain after he fell and was galloped on by a horse at Muswellbrook two days ago.

The 32-year-old, and wife Jenna, only recently became parents.

Close family friends Leanda and Dale Spriggs say the family is still coming to grips with what has happened.

“They’ve been hanging out at the hospital and praying and asking everybody pray too.”

“It just goes to show that it is a dangerous sport after what’s happened to Pat. It is a dangerous sport. It’s something we’ve got to deal with everyday.”
