HMRI series: Supercomputer studies into Alzheimer’s Disease

As our population ages, dementia is becoming an increasingly important health issue, one we can’t afford to ignore.

Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common form, yet despite its prevalence, early symptoms are vague and diagnosis is difficult.

Tonight as we continue our series highlighting the work of the Hunter Medical Research Institute, we look at cutting-edge research which could provide a predictive test for the disease… based on DNA.

  2. That is disturbing that they expect the number of cases to rise – has any research been done to find out why it is on the rise? Chemicals in our food? what? Scarey

    Indeed, there are many researchers working trying to understand the causes. Hawaii will host a large international conference in Alzheimer’s Disease (July 10-15, 2010) in which new theories are likely to be presented.
