Marine Rescue vessels and aircraft are involved in a search for a yachtsman reported overdue on route from Port Stephens to Newcastle.
The man in his 60s is thought to have left Soldiers Point on Sunday in a 6.5 metre trailer sailer heading for Hexham.
Rescuers centred their efforts off Merewether Beach about 8.30 this morning when surfers reported seeing a body in the water. A subsequent air and sea search failed to locate the body.
