COFFS COUNCIL BANS CAGED EGGS
The use of caged eggs by caterers at council functions has been banned by the Coffs Harbour City Council.
Greens councillor, Rodney Degens, gained unanimous support for his push to reject the use of caged eggs on the grounds that it is cruel to keep hens in cages.
Caterers and restaurants used by the council will have to give an undertaking that they will not use caged eggs in any meals or food.
The decision is seen as a win by animal welfare groups which say the move sends a strong message about animal cruelty.
