CANCER CLUSTER REJECTED

A report has rejected claims of a cancer cluster in the Hunter Valley town of Singleton.
Five residents have been diagnosed with brain tumours, and claim the apparent cluster has been caused by dust and fumes from coal mines and power stations.
But a report conducted by Hunter New England Health has found there is no evidence of a cluster, as there is no known link between the cases or the town’s environment.
Professor Bruce Armstong, who has investigated similar cases, has advised that further analysis is not likely to be useful.
