MINE WORKERS STRIKE DEAL

A three-month dispute between mining giant Xstrata and 250 workers at its Bulga Open Cut operation near Singleton in the Hunter Valley, appears to be over.

The CFMEU has given in-principle support to a new three-year workplace agreement, which will be put to its members on the 19th.

The deal includes a 12 per cent pay rise, maternity leave for employees who’ve been with the company for less than five years, paternity leave, and accident pay.

A union spokesman says the compromise offer ensures greater job security.
