Around 50 people attended a ceremony in Civic Park this morning to mark National Service Day.
More than 300,000 young men were called into the armed forces, for compulsory training between 1951 and 1972.
One of two call ups coincided with the Vietnam war, and was highly controversial.
Politicians were today among those who paid their respects.
