SINGLETON LASHED BY HAIL AND WIND

The clean-up continues in the Hunter Valley town of Singleton, after an intense storm tore off roofs and splintered trees.

Locals say it sounded like a freight train, as the town was lashed by wind and hail.

While not as severe as the disastrous 1996 hail storm, damage from the latest tempest was more widespread.

SES incident controller Simon Merrick says with the Summer storm season now in full swing, it’s time to prepare our homes for the next one.

The SES has responded to 160 seperate jobs, mostly relating to wind damage to roofs and smashed windows.

SES volunteers have worked alongside Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire Brigades members during the clean up.
