The paediatric unit at Port Macquarie Base Hospital has regained the use of a verandah that had been closed for some time, thanks to a local Lions Club.
Members of the Tacking Point club, assisted by the ANZ bank, raised the $15,000 needed to renovate the verandah so it can be used as a play area.
The project involved building an extension to the roof and fitting aluminium louvers to provide ventilation and shade.
Soft-fall flooring was also installed.
The verandah had been closed previously because it was too hot and deemed to be unsafe in parts.
