Newcastle police claim to have smashed an organised shoplifting ring, targetting retail outlets in Newcastle, the Central Coast and Sydney.
Using CCTV footage, police say they’ve identified seven suspects, allegedly involved in 20 offences. So far a man and two teenage girls have been charged.
The arrests co-incide with the release of the latest Bureau of Crime statistics which reflect a jump in thefts from stores as well as a general decrease in assaults in the city.
