HAZARD REDUCTION BURNS

After months of wet weather along the north coast, the current dry spell is allowing forestry workers to undertake hazard reduction burns.

The sky around Coffs Harbour is expected to remain hazy for the next few weeks, as the controlled burn offs are carried out in the lead up to the fire season.

Several hundred hectares will be scorched in four state forests on the mid-north coast, between Lower Bucca, Pine Creek and Bellingen.

Forestry officials say the current weather has created ideal conditions to carry out the operations.
