NBN Television has lost one of its true characters with the sad passing of our Head of Production, Rob Short.
Rob died at his home on Thursday night, he was 57-years-old.
Rob started at NBN in 1970 as a studio hand, and rose to the rank of director and production manager.
Over that time he worked on countless programs including Romper Room, specials and commercials, and was a highly-regarded professional.
Known as Shultz to many, Rob was large in life, his loud friendly greetings and laughter would boom throughout the corridors of the station and will be sadly missed.

warm,friendly and happy,everytime he visted my store to get fuel,we shared a little joke…he once came in with his hand all bandaged up…he wasnt keen to tell me how he did it..said he was to imbarresed to tell..but i got it out of him…he sliced it cutting avacados…so eveytime he came in id tell him..i saw an avacado the other day and it reminded me of you…he would laugh and smile that would brighten the day..i will miss him..but everytime i see an avacado…i will see his smile kind regards linda lewis
On behalf of dad (Rob / Shultz), the family would like to let you know that he’s not really gone he will always be with all of us………. His music is blasting, plenty of beers & cooking up a storm. What seems like many years ago now a small band of NBNers were given the task of establishing NTN Television or what better became known as ‘Parry’s Folley’, the first commercial television network in Papua New Guinea. I have just finished going through photos and video tapes from that project that I amassed and with all respect to Mr Shultz, mate your visits to PNG were a laugh from beginning to end. Whilst we knew what to expect when you arrived it’s clear you were a culture shock to the natives yet amongst all the laughs and the South Pacific Largers, you were as usual a professionals professional, a master at winning the due respect of everyone who had the joy of working with or meeting you.

I am going to miss Rob’s laugh! I have fond memories of laughing about something or another almost every week on the phone. Can’t believe he’s gone.
Today’s service was a great celebration of Rob’s life. Was great to see many many people that loved both him and his family.

I am speaking for myself and Rocky in remembering a very drunken party at Shultz and Rhana’s place back in the 80’s when we were both co-workers at NBN. We had great times and will always remember Rob as part of them.
