A man suffering from meningococcal disease is in a serious condition in a New England hospital.
It’s the eighth confirmed case this year in the Hunter New England Health region and a timely warning as historically, it’s during the winter months that most cases occur.
Early symptoms include pain in the legs and abnormal skin colour, with a rash often developing later.
