A 40-year-old Queensland man has died, after his car left the Pacific Highway at Urunga and became submerged in the Kalang River.
A 36-year-old female passenger, who was uninjured in the accident, managed to escaped the vehicle and call for help.
Police say the southbound vehicle crossed the road and slammed into trees before rolling over and landing on its roof in deep water, at around 7.30 last night.
The man was trapped in the car for more than an hour, before being freed by SES volunteers.
A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
