A man, believed to be in his 30’s, died in a six-car crash late yesterday at Johns River, 35 kilometres north of Taree.

It happened at about 5.15pm, when a northbound tilt-tray truck collided with five southbound vehicles, including a semi-trailer.

The driver of a Holden Rodeo utility died at the scene.

Another driver was trapped for some time before being released by the Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He was flown to John Hunter Hospital with serious leg injuries.
