Inverell Police are investigating reports that a man attempted to lure a nine-year-old boy away from his mother on the corner
Byron and Otho streets on Tuesday afternoon.
It’s alleged the unknown man took the boy by the hand and led him across the street.
When the child became fearful and pulled away, police allege the man, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old then followed the boy.
The man is described as 175 centimetres tall with an olive complexion.
At the time of the incident he was wearing a blue and grey beanie, grey or brown knitted jumper, similarly coloured cargo pants, white socks and black thongs.
Anyone with information about the man or who witnessed the incident should contact police.
