BACKPACKER TAX ONLY DELAYING INDUSTRY

The New South Wales Farmers Association says a six month delay on implementing the backpacker tax won’t fix the problem – and only provide more uncertainty.
Barnaby Joyce says he understands the need for seasonal employees, especially in the New England electorate.
“Picking mangos at Mataranka, or grapes out at St George, or even blueberries up there at Drake where we have a seasonal employment workforce of up to a thousand people.”
The tax will be reviewed alongside other workforce shortages faced by the agriculture and tourism industries.
