HIGH-SPEED CRASH SHATTERS AUSSIE CHAMPION

The world title hopes of one of Australia’s Champion waterskiers have been shattered, after a high-speed accident on Grafton’s Clarence River.

Skier Mark Weaver has been airlifted to Brisbane hospital after hitting what’s thought to be a submerged log during a race.

Weaver fractured several ribs and his pelvis when he hit the water at a speed of around 160 kilometres an hour.

The incident happened just hours after the Cairns competitor won the Queensland waterskiing title.

His injuries will rule him out of the World Championships in Belgium next month.
