MOSQUITO REMINDER

The North Coast Area Health Service is reminding people to protect themselves against mosquito-borne viruses.

Director of Public Health Paul Corben says recent flooding, ongoing rain and high humidity are making conditions just right for mosquitoes to breed.

Mr Corben says with a large number of the insects maturing over the coming weeks, there will be a greater chance of being bitten and contracting the Barmah Forest and Ross River viruses.

The service says people should cover their arms and legs, use an insect repellent and try to stay inside between dusk and dawn.
