Defending champions Patrick Vernay and Chrissie Wellington have both won back-to-back titles at Port Macquarie’s Ironman Australia triathlon.
It’s the third straight win for Vernay while Wellington became the first woman to cross the lline at this event in under nine hours.
And while Vernay battled until half-way through the 42 kilometre marathon to take the lead, Wellington was alone up front for the women, with her major contender Michellie Jones dropping out of the race at the last minute, with a bout of the flu.
