COAL MINING HEARING CONTINUES
A hearing into coal mining access agreements on the Liverpool Plains has been adjourned until the 28th of April.
Farmers, mining executives and environmental experts have been making submissions to the Mining Wardens Court in Gunnedah this week.
The hearing relates to access agreements that allow BHP Billiton subsidiary, Coal Mines Australia Limited, to conduct exploration drilling at Caroona.
Farmers are calling for more notice of activities on their lands, fair compensation and new laws that would see mining companies liable for any damage that may be caused during such drilling.
However, BHP Billiton maintains the current system is safe and fair.
