The New England Highway is closed at Maitland, after a semi trailer carrying a crane brought down a pedestrian bridge above Les Darcy Drive.
The span came down on the cabins of two trucks and a car. Several people were injured but none seriously.
Traffic is being diverted around the scene and delays can be expected.
