Old rivals Newcastle and the Central Coast enjoyed a strong hit-out in the curtain raiser to the Waratahs-Fiji rugby match in Newcastle.
The defending Country rugby champions, started the rep season where they left it, beating the Coast side 19 – 5.
It was the visitors who scored first through Tim Hill but it was all down hill from there with David Kennedy, Rob Ashton and Johnny Mafi all crossing for Newcastle in a strong finish.
