The mystery continues over a US marine dog tag which was dug up along with some animal bones, in a vegetable patch in a Nelson Bay backyard late last month.
Police are no closer to finding out whether the original owner of the tag, soldier Leroy Happel from Indiana, is still alive.
They’ve contacted the American Embassy, which is chasing it up his military records.
