A man has allegedly forced his way into the bedroom of a girl before threatening her with a knife and sexually assaulting her, in the North West of New South Wales.
Police say the incident occurred at a home in West Tamworth in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The girl, aged 13, was taken to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital for treatment and is being offered counselling.
Following inquiries, detectives from the Child Abuse Squad arrested a 27-year-old man at a nearby home in West Tamworth, shortly after 1pm.
The man, who is known to the girl, was charged with aggravated sexual assault – threat to inflict actual bodily harm with weapon.
He will appear at Tamworth Local Court today.
