CHILD HURT AS CAR GOES OVER CLIFF
A five-year-old boy is incredibly lucky to be alive tonight, after he released the handbrake while playing in the family car.
It careered 80 metres down a suburban Newcastle street, then through a barrier, before plunging over an embankment and landing about 10 metres below in a creek.
The car had a trailer attached, which ended up under the vehicle.
The boy’s family rescued him, and he was taken to John Hunter Hospital by ambulance, with serious head and lower body injuries.
He remains in a stable condition.
Police believe the boy wasn’t restrained at the time.
