ARMIDALE ATHLETICS TAKE HOME THREE MAJOR AWARDS

Armidale Athletics Club has cleaned up at the city’s sports awards overnight, taking out the Senior State Team of the Year.

It was a reward for athletes picking up 30 medals at the New South Wales Country Championships in January.

While club president Jay Stone received Senior Sports Star of the Year, after winning the Australian Masters 200-metre and 400-metre events.

15-year-old steeplechase competitor, Stuart Geddes, won Junior Sports Star after claiming the New South Wales All Schools crown.

Senior regional team of the year – New England Nomads (Aussie Rules)

Senior state team of the year – Armidale Athletics Club

Senior team of the year – University of New England womens football squad.

Junior local team of the year – The Armidale School First XI (Football)

Junior regional team of the year – New England Girls School Polocrosse

Junior state team of the year – Ben Venue Public girls Hockey

Junior team of the year – Duval High School boys Futsal

Senior sports star – Jay Stone (Athletics)

Junior sports star – Stuart Geddes (Athletics)

Special Awards – Bronte Dagg (Horse Sports), Sahra Dennehy (Tennis)
