73-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY OFFENCES

A woman who was allegedly found trying to capture a pelican and put it in the boot of her car on the Mid North Coast, has been charged.
The 73-year-old will face court later this month, having been charged with a series of animal cruelty offences.
Police have been told the woman was at a boat ramp at Tuncurry in late April, when she was seen to grab a pelican and place it in the back of the car.
The bird was freed as police approached.
Following inquiries, a search of a home on Rest Point Parade at Tuncurry, allegedly discovered mobile phones containing images of mutilated animals.
A caged magpie, with its beak removed, was taken to a vet but was later euthanised due to its injuries.
Police will allege in court, that the woman had been capturing wilflife, and torturing the animals before taking them to a veterinary clinic claiming to have found them injured.
