NOTHING TO SMELL HERE

Residents across Newcastle have woken to what many say is a pungent odour in the air.

Some have described the smell in suburbs from Lambton, Shortland, and Maryville as “strong and gas-like”.

New South Wales Fire and Rescue investigated the issue and found no gas emissions.

The Environment Protection Agency today said the odour is likely to be naturally occurring gas, possibly from stagnant water after the recent heavy rainfall and will disperse with wind.
