A body has been found following a suspicious house fire in the Hunter region overnight.

Around 12.30am, emergency services were called to a home on Rosemount Drive at Raymond Terrace following reports of an explosion and fire.

After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters located a body inside the home.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, police have confirmed a 76-year-old woman who lives at the property is unaccounted for.

Shortly after, at around 1.20am, police responded to reports a vehicle had collided with a truck, about 5km north of Bulahdelah.

The driver, a man aged in his 60s, was taken to John Hunter Hospital suffering serious injuries where he remains under police guard.

The truck driver wasn’t injured.

Officers are now investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
