ACTION CONTINUES OVER EXPELLED STUDENT

Teachers at Chatham High have resumed industrial action, with the majority once again refusing to teach the first hour of classes.
They say the return of an expelled student sends the wrong message, and may even put them at risk.
Chatham High students are lucky they have such excellent teachers who are more committed to student safety than pay packets. Good on Chatham High for standing up fpr their primary duty of care – the student safety!
Congratulations to Chatham High teachers! Why should an adolescent who has broken the law, be given more rights than those who behave correctly. If this student had gone into District or Regional Office with weapons he would have been spending time in the Juvenile Justice system, not in school. It is time the DET realized schools are institutions for teaching and learning, not detention centres. Why do we allow behaviors that are considered criminal if perpetrated outside of school grounds, to be accepted when committed within an institution where we send our children in trust? Surely this student would be able to access Distance Ed through Camden Haven, then the parents would have to take responsibility for their own child’s behaviour and education, in the safety of their own home! Is DET bullying you into breaching OHS laws? Bullying is illegal!! Contact Workcover, NSW and read the DET’s own Code of Conduct. Remember the saying “Evil proliferates when good men do nothing!” Thank you teachers!
