MAN HOSPITALISED WITH MENINGOCOCCAL DISEASE

A man is in a stable condition in a Hunter hospital after contracting meningococcal disease.
It’s the fourth confirmed case of the disease in the Hunter New England region this year.
Close contacts of the man have been given antibiotics as a precaution.
“Meningococcal disease may be very severe and the community needs to be on the alert for its symptoms. If anyone suspects meningococcal disease, they should seek medical attention immediately,” said Public Health Physician, Dr Tony Merritt.
The first symptoms may include pain in the legs, cold hands and feet and abnormal skin colour.
