PUBLIC VOICE SESSION ON SHOW HOLIDAY

Despite endorsing the show holiday last month, Newcastle City Council has called a public voice session tonight for the Hunter Business Chamber, which is opposed to the holiday.
The business community believes it should be rejected, due to the financial costs to businesses.
But organisers of the Newcastle Show say cancelling the public holiday on Friday March 27 would be a major blow.
President Roger Geary says there’s been a show holiday since 1902, the first year of the Newcastle Show and he believes the chamber is being short-sighted.
Organisers say the show will still go ahead, even if the holiday is called off.
