There’s a push to keep the Coffs Harbour Slipway open for emergency repairs to boats when the facility closes at the end of July for at least five months.
Crown Lands is closing the slipway to allow remediation and decontamination work after the EPA found dangerous chemicals on the site.
Commercial trawler fishermen and other boat owners are signing a petition calling for the slipway to open whenever there’s a serious incident.
However, a Crown lands spokesperson says that’s unlikely to happen.
