GAME DAY TRAVEL LEAVES W-LEAGUE TEAMS FATIGUED

The Newcastle Jets’ women’s captain, Cheryl Salisbury, says the quality of the W-league is being compromised by a lack of resources.

After winning their first encounter at home against Canberra, the Jets went down 3-2 to Adelaide on the weekend.

Salisbury says the team was definitely fatigued, having travelled from Newcastle to South Australia, on the same day as the match.

“I don’t think it’s the best situation for a national league and a pro league to be based on travelling the day you play.” Salisbury said.

The team flies to Lismore on Saturday, for its clash against competition favourites, Queensland Roar that night.

Gemma O’Toole comes into the squad, with Emily Van Egmond, Sam Wood and Hannah Brewer away on national duty.
