FORMER MANILLA MAN NOT GUILTY
A former Manilla man who cut a crucifix into his brother’s body before killing him, has been found not guilty on the grounds of mental illness.
42-year-old Wayne Michael Spillett pleaded not guilty in the New South Wales Supreme Court to murdering his younger brother, Mark Spillett, last year.
Mark’s remains were found in a burnt out cottage on a property near Narromine in August 2007.
Spillet was arrested at Split Rock Dam near Manilla the following month.
Justice Roderick Howie ruled today that while Spillet intended to kill his brother, the defence of mental illness is clear.
