DEAD MAN FOUND IN GUNNEDAH
A 50-year-old man has been found dead in suspicious circumstances in the northern New South Wales town of Gunnedah. The man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
At 10am police were called to a Wilkinson Road property at the entrance to Gunnedah’s Riverside Racecourse.
There, a 50-year-old-man was found dead in what police say are ‘highly suspicious circumstances’.
By midday the road had been blocked as police secured the area. Acting Inspector Karl Attenborough said “a crime scene has been established and police are conducting enquiries into the cause of the death, the victim at this stage has not yet been formally identified.”
It’s understood a phone call from a witness alerted ambulance officers to the house. Police today wouldn’t confirm whether they’d also spoken with the caller, although it’s understood several leads are being investigated.
“There’s been a number of people who are assisting police with enquiries in relation to the identification of the deceased and his last whereabouts as well,” said Inspector Attenborough.
The man is yet to be formally identified. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
